Larry Paddock reported that he went to Eau Claire for the day, and when he returned home he noted that the dresser drawers in his bedroom were open and that his Ruger .44 revolver had been stolen. Larry Paddock reported he had no idea who would have taken the revolver.

On Wednesday Nov. 5, 2008, Deputy Grassmann met with Raymond Osiecki who reported that some time between Saturday, Oct. 25, and Nov. 4, 2008, someone had vandalized a trailer he owns on W12653 Sentinal Ash Road in the Town of Atlanta, Rusk County. Raymond stated that one of the windows had been broken out with something hard like a baseball bat. Deputy Grassmann photographed the damaged window. Raymond reported that he had given no one permission to break out the window, and that it appeared nothing had been taken from the trailer.

On Nov. 12, 2008, David Leanna reported to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department that between Oct. 3, 2008, and Nov. 11, 2008, someone had broken the lock on the east entrance of his cabin, located at W13069 Sentinal Ash Road in the Town of Atlanta. Leanna reported he gave no one permission to force the lock open and enter his cabin.

At the time these incidents were reported, there were no suspects and the crimes remained unsolved.

On Sunday, April 12, 2009 Donald Mulholland reported that on April 11, 2009, he and his wife Kari had been at their cabin on N7990 Blodgett Road in the Town of Murry, Rusk County and noticed that a hunting blind had been stolen from inside the cabin. Paddock further stated that he had taken a meat smoker from inside the cabin on Nailcreek Road and that Bessel had taken a hatchet. He stated they took Bessel’s jeep to and from the property. On May 4, 2009 Grassmann spoke with Derrick Shifflet, owner of the cabin located at N8456 Nailcreek Rd, Town of Hubbard, Rusk County. Shifflet advised that he was aware his cabin had been broken into, but that he had not yet reported it. He stated that his meat smoker and hatchet were missing and that the lock on the front door had been damaged. He stated he gave no one permission to break the lock, enter the cabin, or steal any of his property. Paddock also admitted to breaking into the cabins located on Sentinal Ash Road during 2008 with the intent to steal items inside.
