Burglaries widespread during hunting season Rusk and Chippewa county deputies are investigating a rash of burglaries to cabins and businesses, many of them reported to have taken place during hunting season.
There was no official speculation as to whether perpetrators might be the same, but one business owner pointed out the burglar who broke in his door with an alarm sign had to be dumb.
Jim Andros at All Seasons Sport Shop in Holcombe said he got to his place shortly before Chippewa deputies after his alarm went off Sunday night. “They climbed the fence, broke the door, and took nothing,” he said, adding there would have been nothing to take because he doesn’t leave cash and coins around at night.
A lumberyard near his place was burglarized, he said, and there were footprints in the snow.
Dumb burglars who risked a lot for very little cash, broken doors, and no damage seemed to be characteristic of last week’s break-ins.
Mike Villapando at J & M Marine just at the county line on Wis. 27 south said he was gone for a long weekend and when he got back Tuesday he found the door broken and a small amount of cash taken, but no other damage.
The Magic Salons owned by Dawn Brisky was burglarized a week ago Sunday. Dawn said she left late in the evening Sunday and reported the burglary the next day. The burglar apparently used a crowbar on the door, wrecked nothing, and took stereo and very little cash.
At Rivers Edge in Rusk County, a burglary was reported Sunday night, Nov. 29, or early Monday, Nov. 30. A big screen television was taken along with a very small amount of cash.
