Manhunt ends with arrest after woman is shot A shooting Monday night followed by an hour-long manhunt involving at least three law enforcement agencies ended with an arrest shortly before 9:30 p.m.
The suspect, Gregory E. D'Amico, 42, was arrested. According to dispatch radio traffic, the man shot a woman at a home, N1527 Wis. 40. After the shooting, D'Amico allegedly had a young boy, possibly his son, in the home with him.
Wis. 40 was blocked off north and south of the home, north of County D in the Island Lake area. The incident began as a domestic dispute.
An officer transported the victim to an ambulance standing by in the Amacoy Lake area.
The victim, who was not identified, was transported to Rusk County Memorial Hospital by ambulance and a medical helicopter was called. The extent of her injuries could not be immediately determined.
Another officer shortly afterward reported he had the young boy, D'Amico's son, safe in his squad.
Shortly before the arrest, Lori D'Amico informed law enforcement she had her brother Gregory D'Amico in her van, he was unarmed and he had left the gun in a bedroom at the home.
After the arrest at about 9:30 p.m., a SWAT team from Chippewa County and aerial surveillance with heat-seeking capability was called off.
Rusk County law enforcement officials were not immediately available for comment after the incident. Sheriff's Department personnel from Rusk and Chippewa counties and personnel from the Ladysmith Police Department responded.
