Wednesday: Wisconsin assembly passes no texting bill The Wisconsin Assembly voted 89-6 Tuesday to prohibit motorists from texting while driving.
A similar bill passed the state senate last October. Because the two bills vary slightly, another vote will be needed before it can be signed into law by Gov. Jim Doyle.
Nineteen other states already ban texting while driving.
Both bills call for a $400 fine for the first offense. The senate bill calls for an $800 fine for a second offense.
Doyle has pledged to sign the bill.
