LeRoy Metzger LeRoy Henry Metzger, 79, of Ladysmith died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.
LeRoy was born March 23, 1920, to Henry Metzger and Selma Meier. He married Janet Jones in El Paso, Texas on July 24, 1942. He lived in the area for 59 years
He was a member of the United Congregational Church in Ladysmith.
LeRoy loved to fish, hunt, golf and sports in general. He was a “best buddy” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He graduated from Ladysmith High School in 1938.
He spent five years in the Army. He was involved in the invasion of Normandy as well as seeing action in North Africa and Italy. After the war, he returned to Ladysmith and worked as an electrician.
He was a self-employed electrician and he also worked for the Peavey Paper Mill.
He was active in the church. He also was a fireman for many years and volunteered in the hospital.
LeRoy is survived by his wife Janet; his daughter Linda (Phil) Strop of Ladysmith; his son Mike (Karen) Metzger of Sun Prairie, Wis.; his brothers Bob Metzger of Blain, Minn., and Clarence Metzger of Appleton, Wis.; his sisters-in-law Vonnie Strop of Ladysmith and Erna Stingle of Ladysmith; his grandsons Todd (Chris) Strop of Hudson, Wis., and Ben (Chelsea) Metzger of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and his granddaughters Cori Wisniewski of Sparta, Wis., and Betsy (Luke) Denny of Columbus, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Selma and his son Mark.
A memorial service for LeRoy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Ladysmith Congregational Church UCC with Rev. Leslie Schenk officiating. Friends are welcome at the church after 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Ladysmith Veterans Association.
The Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
