Christina Tomaszewski

Christina A. Tomaszewski, 92, of Hawkins went to meet the Lord on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. She lived at the home of Mike and Winkie (Edwina) Eckes.

She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Feb. 13, 1917, to Joseph and Agnes Gryga. Her parents moved to South Fork in Hawkins. Here, she met and married her sweetheart Edward Tomaszewski on June 1, 1940.

They bought and lived on a small dairy farm in South Fork where they raised their two daughters Bernadine and Edwina. After giving the farm to their children, they continued to live there after they retired. Ed died in 1987 and Chris lived there alone until 2002 when her daughter Winkie (Edwina) and son-in-law Mike Eckes took her in.

Christina was an active member of St. Marys Catholic Church in South Fork. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and her farm. Chris loved company and there was always room at the table for one more friend. The girls always said, if you left mom’s table hungry it was your own fault.

She leaves behind her daughters Bernadine (Michael) Borek and Edwina (Mike) Eckes; her grandchildren Jerome (Jennifer) Lang, Jr., Krista (Jer) Bischoff, April Eckes and Randy Borek; her great-grandchild Sydnee Bischoff; and her sister Jeanette Kowalski.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Agnes Gryga; her loving husband Edward; her sisters Julia and Katherine; and her brothers Walter, Adam and Johnnie.

Mass will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at St. Marys Catholic Church in South Fork (Hawkins). There will be visitation at 9:30 a.m. with a rosary at 10 and mass at 11. There will be a lunch after mass put on by the women from the parish. Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
