Christopher Evert Christopher L. Evert, 47, of Terre Haute, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, after a year-long battle with cancer. According to his wishes there were no services and he was cremated.
Chris was born Dec. 22, 1962, in Minneapolis, to Joanne (Bucher) and Ronald Evert. He spent his earliest years at the Shriners Hospital in St. Paul in rehabilitative treatment for Spina Bifida. He lived for some time in the Ladysmith area in the late 1960s to early 1970s and attended Bruce School. He later moved with his mother and his sister Jenny and brother John to Peoria, Ill. He graduated from Bradley University in 1998.
His first employment was as an English teacher at the Academy at Illinois Central College. A lifetime love of books and reading led to a career in the retail book business, working at various times for Tattered Cover Bookstore, Hastings Entertainment and Borders. After a brief return to teaching in the Ypsilanti Public Schools he was employed by BMG Columbia House as Senior Video Buyer/Planner at the time of his death.
His work took him to Denver, Amarillo, Ann Arbor and Terre Haute. He had many friends and a family that mourns his passing. He is survived by his sister Jenny of Parker, Colo.; his brother John of Peoria, Ill., and his father Ron of Ladysmith.
He was preceded in death by his mother Joanne in 2000.
