Lightning strike kills 11 cows at Hawkins area dairy farm Luke Klink Lightning struck a tree in the pasture at the farm of Paul and Mary Tremaine near Hawkins in the early morning last Tuesday, killing 11 holstein milking cows and injuring two others.
All but one of the cows that were killed were already bred and carrying calves, according to Mary Tremaine. She said things didn’t look right when her husband was returning from the pasture the next morning with fewer cows than normal.

Early morning fire destroys Schweigert barn south of Bruce Bruc firefighters responded last Friday to an early morning barn fire at the Town of Washington farm operated by Paul and Mike Schweigert.
The farm is located on Sawdust Road just west of County E, about 10 miles south of Bruce.
