Jury finds Roy Beaulieu guilty A Rusk County jury found Roy Beaulieu, 65, guilty of second degree murder late Wednesday afternoon.
The Ladysmith man was charged two years ago with causing the death of Laura Bruce along a railroad track in the city on May 22, 1976. Bruce family members hugged when the verdict was read aloud in the courtroom.

Prosecution presents case in murder trial A murder trial this week in Ladysmith is shining new light on what had been a cold case death in the city 32 years ago.
Roy Beaulieu, 65, of Ladysmith is charged with causing the death of Laura Luella Bruce, 63, on or about May 22, 1976. A routine medical autopsy performed shortly after she was found dead revealed she died of unknown causes. A more extensive forensic autopsy on her exhumed body in 2005 found injuries showing she may have been strangled.

Park board members resign One third of the Ladysmith Park Board has resigned after the city council began doubting an earlier decision to hold a referendum on returning lifeguards to Memorial Park Beach.
Residents in support of lifeguards were told at a city council meeting last week they would have to circulate a petition to force the city to hold a referendum on the issue. The council voted earlier this year to hold the referendum.
