Recently, Bud Young, brother of Cindy Morse, participated in a senior bowl tournament which took place in Aschwaubenon, WI. There were 193 participants in the week long tournament. The championship game was televised. Earlier in the tournament, Young was sitting in 143rd place and needed to improve to 63rd place in order to move on to the next round.Young wouldn’t make it into the next round, but he was invited back to the senior bowl tournament next year, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
West Cove lanes will be holding informational meetings for their variety of leagues beginning on Aug. 23. If you are not already part of a league, you may attend any of the league meetings and a spot will be found for you. If you have a team, you can come to a meeting as well. The rain-delayed AFCO Race of Champions night was held Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Rice Lake Speedway, with the winners qualifying for the Race of Champions event to be held in September during the WISSOTA 100 at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, S.D.
The Tri-County 7-9th grade softball season came to a close and the final game was played between Flambeau 1 and Flambeau 2 at the High School softball field. The players looked like they had a lot of fun, but they didn’t seem to let the fact that they were playing future teammates deter them from playing a tough game of softball.
Hannah Ludescher, incoming Flambeau senior, recently participated in the Pony League 18U Eastern Zone Fastpitch National Tournament in Sterling, Virginia with her summer traveling softball team, Central Wisconsin VooDoo.
On July 10 in Menomonie, two Johnson Motors Super Stocks heats were won by Mike Anderson and Eric Olson as Rick Hallquist and Olson paced the feature field. Olson drove to the lead as Anderson went to the high side and chased in second. Anderson drove to the lead but a spinning Chad Gullixson reset the field and restored Olson to the lead. This was the break Olson needed as he stayed out front the remainder of the race for the feature win.
Nothing has changed in the standings of the Red Cedar Men’s Fastpitch League after eight weeks of play. The Minor Division’s V & M Bar and the Major Division’s Twin Pines Taxidermy continued winning.
It was an interesting day for baseball. Rain was coming down in sheets, and not three minutes later the sun would be shining on the county I field. Lucky for the Glen Flora Gators, and the Flambeau Falcons minor league baseball teams, the rain stopped just in time for the two undefeated armies to play their game.
When fans first arrived to Bruce Park to enjoy a baseball game between the Bruce Belters and the Tony Hayshakers, they were greeted by a relentless sun which was in the process of setting in a perfect line with the pitchers mound and home plate. While beautiful, it made it very hard to see what was going on and caused the game to be postponed twice while waiting for sunset.
New teachers in the School District of Ladysmith this year include Brittani Majeskie (front, l. to r.) and Nick Moelter in 2nd grade, Jill Tepler in kindergarten and Jennifer Powell in special education; and (in back) Wayne Ellinghausen III in government and history, Bob McMahon in tech-ed, Jason Joenke in science, math and English and Ashley Thorgerson in business. A choir teacher has yet to be hired.
With fall right around the corner, Flambeau Schools prepared their new teachers at orientation last week.
