A 3-year-old girl riding in a minivan was killed Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Wis. 27 near Cadott in Chippewa County.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 2:34 p.m., on July 11, of a crash involving a dump truck and a minivan, with injury, at the intersection of Wis. 27 and County MM in the town of Sigel just south of the village of Cadott.
According to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department, dump truck was traveling northbound on Wis 27. A minivan was traveling southbound on Wis. 27 and attempted to turn eastbound onto County MM in front of the northbound dump truck. The dump truck collided with the passenger side of the minivan. Both vehicles ended up in the east ditch north of the intersection.
Names were not released.
The driver of the minivan was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver of the minivan was airlifted to an Eau Claire area hospital for serious injuries. The juvenile passenger in the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The operator of the dump truck was uninjured.
The crash is currently being investigated by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.
