An ATV operator died from injuries suffered in a crash on Sunday in Price County.

The Price County Sheriff's office received a 911 call transferred from the Vilas County Sheriff's office of an ATV crash on an ATV trail north of Wis. 70 and east of Smith Rapids Road in the town of Fifield. The call was at about 11:46 a.m. on Sept. 9.

An initial investigation revealed the ATV was traveling south on Trail 121 in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest with a group of other ATVs. The ATV struck a tree and the driver was ejected from the ATV. The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls where the driver was later pronounced dead.

The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of family members.

The Price County Sheriff's office, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Park Falls Ambulance Service and Pike Lake Fire Department First Responders responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the state DNR and Price County Coroner's office.
