Truck hit by train

Responding officers located the crash scene on Stanberry Road at the Canadian National Railroad tracks.

The Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a report of a train versus semi crash near County M in Stanberry in Washburn County at about 2:14 p.m. on Monday, June 11.

Clifford Langford, 82, of Superior was driving the truck. He was not injured.

The semi unit, which is owned by Jeff Foster Trucking Inc. of Superior, was hauling used railroad ties.

As the semi unit traveled westbound over the railroad tracks a southbound CN locomotive struck the rear of the semitrailer. The force of the collision overturned the semi unit into the opposite side of the roadway.

No injuries from either vehicle were reported. Alcohol use is not suspected.

Assisting agencies included Washburn County Sheriff’s Department, Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department and North Ambulance Service.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
