Motorcycle crash

The Taylor County sheriff reports alcohol may have contributed to a fatal motorcycle crash early Tuesday, June 22.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 12:10 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, reporting a motorcycle accident with an unresponsive male who wasn’t breathing and was lying in the ditch about one-quarter mile south of Wis. 64 on County Road E in the town of Hammel.

The caller indicated it appeared the accident occurred sometime during the night. Taylor County Sheriff’s Deputies and Medford Fire, Ambulance and Medevac were dispatched.

According to Taylor County Sheriff Larry Woebbeking, once emergency services arrived on scene it was determined the driver of the motorcycle, Brian Rygiel, 49, of Chippewa Falls, was dead.

A preliminary investigation indicates the accident occurred sometime shortly after 3 a.m., June 22. Rygiel was southbound on County E and failed to negotiate a curve and drove into the ditch striking a tree. Rygiel was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and alcohol is also believed to be a contributing factor.
