The Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a two vehicle crash on U.S. 8 east of Almena with injuries on Thursday morning.
Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Almena Fire Department, Barron County First Responders, Gold Cross and Cumberland Ambulances and the Life Link Helicopter responded to the scene at 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 13.
Initial investigation shows a Ford Taurus driven by MaryAnn Desilvio, 77, of Almena, was stopped on U.S. 8 waiting to turn into her driveway when she was rear ended by a truck driven by Travis Peterson, 30 of Turtle Lake.
A passenger in the Taurus, Donald Desilvio, 53, was extracted from the vehicle and flown out in critical condition. Mary Ann was also extracted and transported to Mayo Hospital in serious condition.
Peterson was transported by private vehicle to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
U.S. 8 was closed for about three hours with the help of the Barron County Highway Department.
The crash is being reconstructed by the Wisconsin State Patrol and remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.
