The Price County Sheriff's department received a call at 8:27 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 from the Prentice School District Administrator who reported finding a note written on a wall inside the school.
The note indicated there was a threat to those in the school. The threat was written in a bathroom stall in the boys' bathroom and was a general threat of death at a specific time.
Students and staff were evacuated.
An investigation revealed a 10-year-old student was identified in this case. The student was not named.
Officers from the Price County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State Patrol and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded, along with members of the Prentice Fire Department and Prentice Ambulance Service.
Sheriff Brian Schmidt thanked the parents, students, staff and residents in the Prentice area for their patience while the case was investigated. He said the limited information released initially proved valuable.
"During the investigation the suspect divulged specific information to the investigator that only the suspect or someone closely involved would have known," Schmidt said.
The school was cleared for a safe return of the students and staff.
No one was injured.
Schmidt said he feels confident there is no credible threat to school students or staff.
The case is being forwarded to the Price County Department of Health and Human Services for their review.
