Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this Feb. 1 crash near Chetek.

The Barron County Sheriff Department received a call of a one vehicle crash on U.S. 53 just north of Chetek at 12:12 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Chetek Police Department, Chetek Ambulance, Chetek Fire Department, and Lifelink3 Helicopter responded.

Upon arrival, it was determine a vehicle was traveling northbound on the highway and struck a guardrail.

The driver, Jack Holstein, 23 of Cadott, was the only person in the vehicle. Holstein was extricated from his vehicle and flown by Lifelink 3 to an Eau Claire Hospital with serious injuries.

There were no other vehicles involved.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, according to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald.

The northbound lane of the highways was closed for about one hour.

The crash is being investigated by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.
