The Ladysmith School District will be hiring a new elementary school principal.
Laura Stunkel has spent the last six years as elementary principal in Shell Lake, where she was also in charge of curriculum and district assessment coordinator.
Previous to that, she was a teacher at Flambeau School.
Other finalists for the position were current school counselors, Leah Bunton and Doug Dieckman, Joann Walker, Altoona schools dean of students, and Michelle Kanipes, presently the Washington Island School District PreK-12th grade principal.
Stunkel’s salary proposed at $95,000 is expected to be approved by the Ladysmith School Board this week Wednesday.
Stunkel succeeds Andy Grimm, who is resigning effective July 1 to take the position of district administrator for the Winter School District.
Ladysmith schools will have all new administrators in schools in the fall.
In April, the school board approved the employment of a new principal and assistant principal for Ladysmith Middle & High School. Greg Posewitz will become principal and Nathan Steinmetz will become assistant principal.
Posewitz will succeed Principal Bob Lecheler, who is retiring after eight years in the position.
Steinmetz will succeed Assistant Principal Chelsea Anderson, who is resigning at the end of this school year because she is moving out of the area.
All of the principal hirings take effect July 1.
