There has been a lot of talk lately about the various states proposing and enacting laws concerning abortion. Some states have signed into law some of the most liberal abortion laws in our country’s history. Some states give the appearance of trying to outdo each other by proposing the legal destruction of human life after a child is born.
In the last 2000 years every developing society has enacted laws to protect human life at all stages of development. There were laws on the books that stated “every child from the moment of conception has the same inheritance rights as his or her siblings”. But these laws all went away after the infamous 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.
That Supreme Court did not take into account any scientific evidence that outlined all the stages of human development. That group of Supreme Court justices [and I use the term -justice loosely] did not look at any religious evidence that all peoples are created in the image of God.
That group ignored all the laws in place that protect life. The only reason behind their decision is the money to be made by the abortion industry. Yes, they have reduced human life to a commodity to be bought and sold in the marketplace.
There are those who call this progressive. I call it regressive. To return to a time when nothing is wrong and everything is right is regressive. When we regress back to a time when laws that protect human life are abandoned then we are well on the way to a lawless society. Lawlessness begets lawlessness and a lawless society is rife with anarchy. Anarchy unchecked will bring ruin to a society.
There is very vocal minority in this country and around the world that favors anarchy and mob control. Forgive them Father for they know not what they do. Until we as a society turn back to God we will not know peace.
I applaud the progressive states who care enough for all God’s children to pass laws that bring protection to the ones most in need of our protection. My prayers are that one day all God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!’” [Martin Luther King Jr.]
