The Bruce Red Raiders were home Friday night as the hosted the Cornell Chiefs in Lakeland Conference action.
The story of the night for the Red Raiders was senior, Connor Checkalski who was unstoppable in the paint as he scored 27 points in the first half as the Raiders jumped out to a 37-16 lead heading into halftime.
The night was just getting started though as Checkalski went on to a career high 37 points in Friday’s contest as the Raiders out scored the Chiefs 35-12 in the second half on their way to a convincing 72-28 victory at home.
Behind Checkalski’s 37 points, it was Kevin Brockman finishing the night with seven points as Dan Brockman had six while Dexter Roatch chipped in with five points in the victory. “Connor was on Friday night and it was a great win that I hope gives us some momentum entering the final stretch of our schedule as we head into the play-offs. I thought we looked really good moving the ball and getting some good looks down low that showed we may have just needed the three days off to get back to our style of play,” stated head coach, Jason Lehman.
The Raiders will be busy this coming week as they are in Flambeau this Thursday to take on the Falcons before returning home Friday to take on Fredric and then are off to Holcombe on Tuesday in what should be a great game as they take on the Chieftains, who defeated Bruce earlier this season 62-60.
