Falcons look to new faces for 2019-20 season
The Flambeau boy’s basketball team will look much different than a year ago as the Falcons will look to replace a senior heavy roster from a year ago with many new faces this season under head coach, Jeff Podgornik. Pogornik will be assisted again this season by Dan Kopacz as they return one starter in sophomore, Harley Opachan to lead the way as they look to replace the likes of Ethan Martin, Peyton Wiemer and Zach Kopacz who played several minutes the last three seasons for the Falcons.
Looking to step into the line-up to help Opachan is fellow sophomore, Riley Ewer and juniors Kimon Gray, Dalton Lebal and Ben Kopacz as well as senior Dakota Miller. “We will be younger than we have been in awhile and are looking to just compete and improve each time we step on the floor,” state coach Podgornik.
With the likes of teams like Birchwood, New Auburn, Lake Holcombe and the Bruce Red Raiders, the Falcons will have their work cut out for them in conference action this season after capturing the title a season ago.
Rounding out the roster for the Falcons are senior Nick Derfus, Sophomores Jacob Heldt and Blake Moore and freshman Dalton Bratanich, Jeffrey Kern, Isaac Kopacz and Jacob Nelson.
The Falcons look to open up the season at home on Thursday, Dec. 5 as they host the Bruce Red Raiders.
