Lawton leaves mark on state track meet

The 2019 WIAA State Track and Field Championships were held last Friday and Saturday in Lacrosse as Kristen Lawton was entering her first appearance in a Flambeau track uniform, while sister Rachel was making her fourth and final appearance in her high school career.

Both sisters qualified for three events each as Rachel qualified for the 800m, 1600m and 3200m runs. Kristen qualified for the 400m dash,  800m and 3200m runs.

Rachel had a state meet that will be remembered as she left her mark on Lacrosse as she reached the podium all three times in her events as she placed fourth in the 1600m run with a time of  5:14.37, she placed sixth in the 800m run with a time of  2:21.99 and was runner-up in the 3200m run with a personal best time of 11:21.70. Rachel finishes her career as one of the most decorated long distance, Flambeau track athletes in school history as she is an eight time state qualifier qualifying for state all four years in cross country and track.

Kristen Lawton had a very successful state track meet in her first appearance as she finished fourteenth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:02.03,  she was ninth in the 800m run with a time of  2:28.51 and finished in twelfth place in the 3200m run with a time of  12:11.27.

As on Lawton career came to an end Saturday for the Flambeau track team, another was just getting started as both Lawtons were on opposite ends of emotions as Rachel finished out a outstanding career with tons of emotions, while Kristen’s sights will now be set on returning to Lacrosse next season to reach the podium at the WIAA State Track Meet.
