The Ladysmith Lumberjacks basketball team braved the cold last Thursday night as they hosted the Hayward Hurricanes in conference action as schools closed down for three days due to dangerously low temperatures throughout the northwest part of the state last week.
Thursday night saw the Hurricanes jump out to an early lead and never look back as they were on top of the Jacks 31-17 after the first half of play in the Ladysmith gymnasium. Three Jacks scored five points in the first half as Spencer Draghi, Jacob Palumbo and Peyton Rogers all led the way in the first half.
In the second half the Jacks made a late run but were held to just 11 points as the Hurricanes out scored them 24-11 to take the 55-28 victory in Ladysmith.
Rogers led the way Thursday night for the Lumberjacks with 11 points as Draghi finished the night as well in double digits with 10 points as the Jacks fell at home to the Hurricanes in conference action.
The Jacks are on the road this Friday night in Chetek to take on the Bulldogs before returning home next Tuesday to Ladysmith as they look to finish out the remainder of their regular season schedule.
