The Flambeau Falcons were in conference action this past weekend as they competed at the Lakeland Conference Tournament in Gilman.
Leading the way for the Falcons was Bryce Best, who moved up a weight class to compete at 195 pounds for the Falcons.
After two byes in the opening rounds, best defeated Cal Leahy of St. Croix falls in the semifinal with a pin in 2:35 to face off against Bruce’s Dakota Hoffman in the final. Best and Hoffman, who met earlier this season in Cadott, where the match went into overtime, showed again to be a great match as the two wrestled the full six minutes to crown this year’s champion at 195 pounds. When the final buzzer sounded it was the Falcon’s Best coming away with the victory 2-0 to be crowned this year’s champion at 195 pounds in the Lakeland Conference.
Jeb Keefer was the only other finalist for the Falcons as the senior reached the 138 pound championship with a victory over state ranked Hunter Sellent of L/F/G, as he pinned Sellent in 3:39 to reach the finals. Keefer fell in the final to top ranked Kole Marko of St. Croix Falls as the Falcon finished second at 138 pounds.
John Schancer went on to a third place finish at 170 pounds for the Falcons as he defeated Keven Anderson of Bruce in 57 seconds and Blake Flach of Shell Lake by a 10-1 major decision to finish third in his final conference tournament.
Randy Uhren finished in fourth place at 145 pounds for the Falcons as he defeated Daniel Nelson of Shell Lake on his way to a podium finish in his final conference tournament for Flambeau.
Nate and Nick Rymarkiewicz both finish fifth for the Falcons as Nate competed at 126 pounds and Nick wrestled at 152 pounds. Cavin Ford finished the day in sixth place as the Falcons now get set for this weekend’s regional in Phillips as the Falcons enter the tournament series with wrestling set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Phillips High School.
